Philips Sonicare Replacement Head Comparison

Here is my Philips Sonicare replacement head comparison where I compare Sonicare C1 vs C2 vs C3 vs G2 vs G3 vs W vs W2 vs W3 in different combinations.

I will start with a comparison of the most popular Philips Sonicare replacement heads because it is what our readers are most interested in.

Sonicare C1 vs C2

What is the difference between Philips Sonicare C1 vs C2?

The manufacturer claims that the C2 Optimal Plaque Control brush head removes 7x more plaque than the manual brush. It is significantly more than 2x the C1 brush head.

The Philips Sonicare C1 SimplyClean brush head, previously known as the ProResults brush head, is designed to be an everyday brushing solution. It has a contoured profile to the brush head, which achieves twice the plaque removal as a manual toothbrush.

On the other hand, the Philips Sonicare C2 brush head, also known as the Optimal Plaque Control brush head, is another everyday brushing solution that is designed to remove up to 7x more plaque than the C1.

While the C2 brush head has a BrushSync chip to track usage and remind you when to replace the brush head, the C1 brush head does not have this feature.

Both the C1 and C2 brush heads should be replaced every three months for optimal performance and hygiene reasons.

In summary, the main difference between the Philips Sonicare C1 and C2 brush heads is their plaque removal capability, with the C2 being more effective. The C2 brush head also has a BrushSync chip to track usage, which the C1 does not have.

Another difference is the BrushSync chip built into the C2 brush head.

Which one should you choose? I would go for the C2 Optimal Plaque Control even if I don’t have a toothbrush with the BrushSync feature. I believe its new design will do a better job.

Sonicare C2 vs C3

The main differences between the Philips Sonicare C2 vs C3 brush heads are their cost and performance and features.

In terms of cost, the C2 is less expensive than the C3. Performance-wise, both the C2 and C3 are designed to remove more plaque than a manual toothbrush. Sonicare C3 can remove up to 10 times more plaque compared to a manual toothbrush, and Sonicare C2 can remove up to 7 times more plaque than a manual toothbrush.

The C3 also features flexible rubber side bristles that can reach more areas, while the C2 does not have this feature..

Furthermore, both C2 and C3 brush heads are equipped with BrushSync technology, which helps track the usage of the brush head and reminds users when it’s time to replace it. In terms of cost, the C2 is cheaper than the C3.

Sonicare C2 heads are available only in white, but C3 heads are also available in black. That is important if you have a black or dark blue toothbrush handle.

Sonicare C3 vs G3

If you are reading this, you are probably wondering about the differences between Sonicare C3 vs G3 brush heads.

The main idea is that the G3 brush heads have softer bristles. It is a better choice for people with sensitive gums.

The Philips Sonicare G3 brush head has extra-soft bristles that are gentle on gums but tough on the plaque, while the C3 brush head has harder bristles. Both brush heads have BrushSync technology and are available in black and white color.

Sonicare C3 vs W

The main difference between the Philips Sonicare C3 vs W brush heads is in their bristle arrangement and stiffness.

The Sonicare C3 brush head has softer bristles on the ends to effectively clean between teeth and power tips to reach hard-to-reach areas for deep cleaning and plaque removal. On the other hand, W brush head has tight stiff bristles in the middle for polishing teeth to remove plaque. The W brush head requires at least seven days to show its whitening effects.

The C3 brush head is designed for deep cleaning and plaque removal, while the W brush heads are ideal for whitening teeth.

Both the C3 and W brush heads have BrushSync technology that pairs the brush head with the appropriate cleaning mode and reminds you to replace the brush head after three months of use. Both the C3 and W3 brush heads remove ten times more plaque when compared to a manual brush.

Ultimately, the choice between Sonicare C3 and W brush heads depends on personal needs. The C3 brush head is popular for offering more in terms of plaque removal and gum care, while the W2 and W3 brush heads are designed for superior cleaning and whitening effects but may not be the most appropriate for gum care due to their stiffer bristles.

Oral B Pro 5000 Review

When you buy Oral B Pro 5000 Professional Care SmartSeries Rechargeable Toothbrush, you can make sure that your mouth, teeth, and gums will really get cleaned.

What is Oral B Pro 5000?

This toothbrush also features FlossAction technology which ensures that your mouth will be clean overall. In fact, you will notice having whiter dentures only after 3 weeks of use.

When it is in deep clean mode, it can remove up to 99.7% of plaque particularly on hard to reach places.

It can remove both plaque and stains from the teeth, and this is something that other electric toothbrushes are struggling with.

Using Oral B 5000 toothbrush will also make you notice how fresher your breath will smell only after a few uses. Despite its strong cleaning abilities, it is gentle on both the teeth and the gums.

Oral B Pro 5000 SmartSeries Features

Floss Action Brush Head

A regular manual brush only manages to get the gunk out of the teeth that are on the surface, while the round head manages to reach smaller areas.

The micropulse bristles have an arrangement that allows it to reach those tiny corners to get every bit of food out, while the floss action feature gives a clean that is very similar to flossing. This does not replace flossing but lessens the need for it.

3D cleaning action

What we do with a regular toothbrush is that we naturally move it vertically and horizontally which manages to get some food out from the surface.

This 3D cleaning action utilizes many sorts of vibrations and movements, so the teeth and gums receive a 360-degree cleaning. It oscillates, rotates, and sends out pulses that get rid of more plaque than a regular old toothbrush.

Pressure Sensor

More often than not we put too much or too little pressure on our teeth while brushing, but the hardest part is to understand when we are doing that.

The pressure sensor feature allows one user to see if he or she is putting too much pressure which can be damaging to the gums and the teeth enamel.

If there is too much pressure, a red LED on the handle will glow, and you will get a notification on your smartphone screen as well.

Bluetooth Communication

Much like everything else today this toothbrush is also automated to a great extent with Bluetooth. Now even though this feature might seem odd in such a device, it comes to a lot of use.

This lets you monitor your brushing habits with real-time feedback which you otherwise could not have done. Things like pushing the bristles too hard or not using the brush too often give off signals which you can see and use to improve your brushing habits in real-time.

Oral B Pro 5000 5 Cleaning Modes

  1. Daily Clean is what one should use every day and is very mild.
  2. Gum Care is one that helps to stimulate the gums, which keeps the teeth healthy and sturdy as well.
  3. Sensitive is for when you feel like your teeth are hurting, or if you have sensitive teeth in general, and uses very moderate speeds.
  4. Whitening changes speeds to eliminate stains from the surface.
  5. Deep Clean extends the cleaning time and should be done every once in a while, but not every day.

Compared to using a manual brush, electric toothbrushes can get through most of your plaques, even those in the hard to reach places. As a result, you can expect to have a cleaner and healthier teeth and gums.

What Is Oral B Pro 1000?

OralB Pro 1000 is one economical choice for a power toothbrush that comes cheaper compared to many similar models from other brands.

This may be the very reason why more and more people shift from using a manual brush to the rechargeable electric toothbrush.

With its advanced cleaning technology, Oral B Professional Care 1000 has been proven to remove up to 97% of plaque, including those in between your teeth. With this, your mouth can enjoy an overall improved condition.

Oral B 1000 Features

Technology

The Oral-B Pro 1000 uses Floss Action Technology to get rid of two times the plaques compared to using a manual toothbrush. This advanced cleaning technology goes through every part of your mouth, getting rid of the plaque where normal brush misses.

Technically, this technology provides an ultimate complete dental cleaning, removing plaques between your teeth and gum line. It leaves you with healthier gums and teeth and makes you feel like you just have gone to a dentist's visit.

Timer Feature

Just like all Oral-B Pro electric toothbrushes, the Oral B Pro 1000 comes with a Professional Timer.

Though, the expensive high-end models usually come with more than one timer option, having just one is proven to be enough for an average user.

The Professional Timer sends a short stuttering sound every 30 seconds for you to equally brush your mouth’s four quadrants. A long stuttering sound is sent out after the 2 minutes recommended brushing time has elapsed.

Oral B Pro 1000 Brushing Modes

Oral-B Pro-1000 comes with one cleaning mode. The Daily Clean Mode is recommended for everyday use. It provides complete and thorough cleaning action to ensure that your pearly whites are clean and free from plaque.

Battery And Charger

Oral-B Pro 1000 also comes with a charger unit that you can use for recharging the toothbrush. It takes about 22 hours to fully charge the toothbrush. The charge typically lasts up to 2 weeks, if used twice daily for 2 minutes.

My Oral B Toothbrush Is Not Charging – What Should I Do?

Depending on your model, a full charge of the Oral B / Braun toothbrush should take from 14 to 22 hours (I will add a list of toothbrush models and charging times below). Then they should last for 5 to 14 days if you brush your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes each time.

If you suspect that the toothbrush battery is deteriorating, here is how you can try to troubleshoot it.

All Oral B toothbrushes except Vitality and Pro 500 have a charging indicator light. The indicator light should flash green during charging. If the toothbrush is completely discharged before charring, it may take up to 15 minutes before the flashes start. When the toothbrush is fully charged, the flashing should stop.

If your empty Oral B toothbrush is sitting on the charger longer than 15 minutes and is showing no signs of life, here is how you can troubleshoot it.

Step 1 - Check The Wall Outlet

When you notice that your Oral B toothbrush is not charging, check if the wall socket you are using is working correctly. Try plugging in a different appliance, for example, hairdryer, to check if there is power in the outlet. Sometimes the bathroom sockets are powered only when the bathroom light or bathroom cabinet light is on. Check it out using a hairdryer as well. Be careful not to charge the toothbrush on a metal surface. The metal can interfere with the charging process. If there is power on the outlet, but the toothbrush still is not charging, let's continue with the next steps. At this point, we can be sure that something is broken. Either your toothbrush battery has died, or the charger is malfunctioning. If you have access to another similar Oral B toothbrush or charger, you can quickly find the faulty device.

Step 2 - Check The Charger And Replace If Needed

To check your charger, either put your toothbrush on another charger unit or use another toothbrush handle that you know is working to check your charger. Pretty much all current Oral B models use the Type 3757 charger, so compatibility should not be a problem. What if you could not find another device for testing? Try charging the toothbrush for an hour and then touch the charger. If the charger is working, it should be warm. If both the charger and toothbrush are cold after being connected to the live outlet, it looks like is is time to look for a new charger.

Step 3 - Check The Toothbrush

If it turns out the charger is working, the toothbrush is to take the blame. According to toothbrushbattery.com, "There are two main causes for charging faults inside the toothbrush, either damaged components for example from being dropped, or a failed battery." If the unit has been dropped to the floor, it is likely that some internal connection has cracked and lost the connection.

Most of the cracked solder joints can be repaired by a skillful handyman using a soldering iron. Another cause of charging failure is the deterioration of the toothbrush battery over time.

Is it possible to replace it? The manufacturer wants you to buy a new battery, so the official answer is no.

In fact, it is possible to replace the faulty Oral B toothbrush battery, but it requires taking apart the brush and resoldering the battery. That is a subject for another article.

Covered By Warranty?

If this does not help and you still cannot charge the toothbrush, you should check if it is still covered by warranty. If it is covered, the manufacturer will solve the issue. If you have had the toothbrush for more than two years, the warranty has expired. However, one of the Oral B service centers may be able to help you.

Charging Your Toothbrush Properly

The first time the toothbrush must be completely charged and discharged again (discharge not to 0%, but shortly before it is completely empty). Do not place the toothbrush on the charging station until the toothbrush indicates it should be charged. Then charge the toothbrush only as long as necessary (but until it is full) and avoid overcharging (even if most batteries don't mind).

Oral B Toothbrush Charging Times

Vitality and Pro Series - 16 hours. Genius Series - 12 hours. All other models - 22 hours.
